Hariharapura is a small and sleepy town in the midst of thick evergreen forests of the Western Ghats and is located on the banks of the Tunga in Chickmaglur District.
Though a small town with a village panchayat, Hariharapura has been a prominent place because of its location and the presence of the Sree Math. It is conspicuouly located on the Kadur - Mangalore State Highway and the Chitradurga - Mangalore National Highway. The Sree Math's history (www.hariharapura.org) dates back to the Adi Shankaracharya period.
As far as educational facilities are concerned, the town has higher primary schools for boys and girls separately and a pre-university college run by the Sree Math. Because of its location, Hariharapura has an excellent bus transport facility.
Hailing from this sleepy town, I grew up with lots of dreams. Having dreamt of becoming a civil servant, presently I am a reporter with a leading English national daily.
